I was talking with a Candidate turned Client the week before my vacation, and he said "I know I'll read all about your vacation on your Blog". Thus I feel obliged.
"Ahhhh" sums it up in a word.
I am definitely a Type A personality, always moving forward, barely taking the time to breathe and never looking back. High energy and passionate. "Vacation" is a dirty word. For all I tout balance - I preach way better than I practice. So I left Friday, very uncomfortable. Not that I didn't trust my team to survive without me, but what would happen to all the fine details I juggle, how would the world survive without me?! I managed to rein in the ego in time to truly unwind.
My vacation was ideal. I literally flipped every twenty minutes in a well cushioned lounge chair beside my pool. I have a gorgeous second home in Western, MA - and I ensconced my very pale self and didn’t move for seven days - the pool, in ground (lest you start envisioning a blow up kiddie pool) was perfectly tempered. Oh sure, I pulled out the canoe for a spin, and went shopping (of course), and managed a hike or two – but mostly, I was supine.
I made it until Saturday before my Type A couldn't be reined in any longer; I knew I had hit maximum capacity when I started pacing. So I’m back, happy to be here, and missing my lounge chair only the tiniest bit.
